Wagering requirements and the 2026 ten-times cap
Wagering is the accumulated value of qualifying bets. It is neither the amount you must lose nor the amount you must deposit, and completing a target never guarantees that money remains.

Translate the multiplier
For a hypothetical £12 bonus with a 5x bonus-only requirement, the stated target is £60. That figure describes qualifying turnover. It does not say that you should deposit £60, that the cost will be £60, or that £12 will be returned. Reusing a return from one wager creates further turnover while exposing it to loss again.
Know the current ceiling
From 19 January 2026, UKGC rules cap requirements to play through bonus funds at ten times. The earlier announced December 2025 date is obsolete. A contemporary Great Britain guide presenting 35x or 50x as a normal compliant bonus requirement is therefore a warning to check its jurisdiction and update history.
Inspect the denominator
The multiplier alone is incomplete. Find the fund amount it multiplies, which wagers count and whether the progress display includes pending transactions. Do not infer permission to lock cash deposits from a label such as deposit plus bonus. Deposit withdrawal rights and promotional conditions must be considered separately.
| Hypothetical bonus | Multiplier | Target turnover |
|---|---|---|
| £5 | 4x | £20 |
| £12 | 5x | £60 |
| £10 | 10x | £100 |

Audit the counter without further play
A counter can lag behind a transaction, exclude an ineligible game or apply a contribution rate. To investigate, use wagers already in the history. Record the counter before and after those transactions if you have screenshots, then compare the credited increment with the stated rule. If a £2 eligible wager is supposed to contribute fully but only £1 is recorded, the question is about that particular difference. Do not multiply the entire account balance by ten unless the terms actually identify it as the relevant base. Most importantly, distinguish a target from a debt: leaving an unfinished promotional counter does not mean you owe the operator the remaining turnover. Ask what cancellation does to the incentive instead.
- Record the bonus amount, multiplier and target as three separate values, with the currency shown beside monetary figures.
- Ask whether pending, voided or excluded transactions explain any difference between your notes and the displayed progress.
- Treat remaining turnover as a promotional condition to assess, never as an instruction to deposit or gamble further.
A complete worked reading exercise
Consider a fictional £8 bonus with a 5x bonus-only requirement, a clearly stated eligible-game list and a fixed expiry. The target is £40 of qualifying turnover. If the ledger shows £14 credited towards that target, the counter remainder is £26. Now suppose the available promotional balance is only £3. The counter has not become a promise that £3 will support another £26 of activity. It merely records past and remaining qualification under the example rules. A balance can be exhausted before a target is met.
Before doing anything else, ask what happens if the promotion is cancelled and what cash funds remain separate. If the account offers a new deposit, recognise that as a new transfer of your own money, not a required mathematical step. The exercise ends with understanding the target and exit conditions. It does not require completing the target, changing games, increasing stakes or adding funds. That boundary is essential to interpreting any wagering calculator responsibly.

A progress calculation
A £12 bonus at 5x has a £60 target. If the account records £18 of qualifying turnover, £42 remains on that counter. This arithmetic says nothing about the remaining balance; it could be smaller, larger or exhausted.
- Identify the amounts and conditions actually stated.
- Keep deposit money, promotional credit and outcomes separate.
- If the information does not reconcile, pause and request an explanation.

Common questions
Does ten-times mean a bonus is safe?
No. A regulatory ceiling limits one condition. Loss, time pressure, restricted games and other terms still matter.
Is the example a current casino offer?
No. It is an invented teaching example. No operator is recommended and no result is promised. Check current terms and the relevant jurisdiction before relying on any real advertisement.
