Mixed-product promotions after January 2026
A casino reward linked to another gambling product needs more scrutiny than an ordinary package of casino credit and spins. Great Britain introduced a specific restriction on mixing product types within incentives.

- Use the product categories
- Read the effective rule
- Inspect the whole incentive
Use the product categories
The current UKGC code identifies betting, casino, bingo and lottery as product types for this restriction. Slots and another casino game are not automatically different product categories simply because they have different names. Analyse the activity required and the reward supplied, not only the visual branding.
Read the effective rule
The restriction took effect on 19 January 2026 alongside the ten-times wagering ceiling. Guidance published before implementation explains that unrestricted customer choice about which product to use credit on is different from an operator constructing a mixed-product incentive. The exact structure therefore matters.
Inspect the whole incentive
A reward wheel, daily prize or sign-up bundle can need the same analysis as a conventional deposit bonus. Do not look only at the initial qualifying action. Follow every possible reward and any required subsequent activity. If the promotion is unclear, seek an explanation rather than assuming its name establishes compliance.
Draw the qualification and reward map
List the activity required to qualify on the left and every possible reward on the right. Assign each to the relevant product category. This is more informative than counting how many games appear in the promotion. A bundle of casino spins and casino credit can involve several games while remaining within one category; an incentive linking betting and casino raises a different issue. For a random reward, include every possible outcome rather than only the one advertised most prominently. The UKGC implementation guidance discusses these distinctions, including unrestricted choice by the customer. Do not extrapolate a complete compliance conclusion from one simplified example. The map helps identify the precise question to put to the business or regulator.
- Identify required activity as well as rewards; a promotion can connect products through either side of the arrangement.
- Check the current UKGC guidance rather than relying on a pre-implementation article or the earlier announced start date.
- Avoid confusing product categories with game titles, software providers, different website tabs or separate brands in one group.
Worked example · hypothetical
Trace a fictional offer
An invented incentive says to place a sports wager to receive casino spins. The qualification involves betting and the reward involves casino. That structure raises the mixed-product issue directly. By contrast, two different slot titles are both within the casino category; other rules still apply.
Common questions
Does the rule ban every business offering several products?
No. It concerns incentive construction. A business can offer different licensed products without every promotion necessarily mixing them.
What if the account behaves differently from the explanation?
Stop and save the relevant screen, terms and transaction references. Ask for a written reconciliation. Continuing to gamble is not necessary to investigate an unclear promotional rule.
